Trans Lesotho MTB Trail

22/03/2011 sees the opening of an exciting MTB ( mountainbike ) trail through some of the most rugged, isolated territory in Lesotho.

The trail will be officially opened with a 4-day endurance race, starting at Liphofung Heritage Site and ending at the famous Katse Dam.

The X-L Trail has been developed jointly between Lesotho Durham Link and Freedom challenge, with much of the spadework done by our own cycling personality, Tumisang ‘Tumi’ Taabe.

Lesotho Durham Link is a Lesotho based NGO operating under the Anglican Church.  Established in 1986 the link has over the years provided youth, health and community services.  There is a strong focus on adventure tourism and youth development through outdoor activities.

Established in 2003, the Freedom Challenge is a project of the Wilderness Foundation, with objectives to see the development of a mtb trail through the Southern African region in the process being a catalyst for community support and youth development along the course of the route.

Lesotho Cycling is pleased to see this development and wish the Trans-Lesotho Trail well and the 4-day race a great success, both now an in coming years. Lesotho riders, Lethusang Ntili and McGregor Lebesa, will be participating in the inaugural race and Tumi will be there to make sure everyone gets through safely.
