MTB Racing or Touring In Lesotho

Lesotho must be one of the best countries in the world for MTB racing or touring. The whole country is covered by a network of dirt roads ranging from smooth to ‘impassable’ as well as well-worn footpaths and bridle routes. Many of these trails will take cyclists far into the mountainous ‘Highlands’ to areas that only the local or intrepid adventurers have been before. Check out the events on the right-hand column.

Adventurers to consider challenging the climbs and valleys of Lesotho for your next cycling adventure either as part of an organised cycle race or as a cycle tourist.

Consider the following points: -

1. Lesotho Cycling is affiliated to UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) as a member national federation.

2. Lesotho boasts some of the highest and steepest cycle roads in Southern Africa, which is an ideal way for cyclists to challenge their potential, as well as breath-taking scenery such as mountains, valleys and waterfalls.

3. Lesotho is easy to access for South African cyclists for cycle races or training.

4. Race organisers may have access to UCI registration for cycle races on the UCI International MTB Calendar at significantly lower costs. This opens the door for international cyclists and teams to compete in cycling races in Africa.

5. The weather in Lesotho is ideal for cycling. In summer temperatures rarely top 30 deg C. In winter cycling in the cold may be a challenge to SA visitors but visitors from Europe/ N. America will be comfortable to cycle.

6. Lesotho is potentially a great venue for off-season training for cycling visitors.
